Pell Grant

The Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships will review and determine Pell Grant eligibility for the summer term. Pell Grant funding for the summer 2024 term is based on several factors including a student鈥檚 Expected Family Contribution (EFC) as determined by completing the 2023-2024 FAFSA. Additional factors that affect Pell Grant eligibility may include:

  • The number of credits a student enrolls in
  • Pell Grant Lifetime Eligibility Used (funding cannot exceed 600% or six-year full-time equivalent of Pell)
  • A student鈥檚 SAP status

Not sure if you are eligible for Pell Grant funding during the summer term?

Determining Pell Grant eligibility can be complex. Because our office determines summer financial aid eligibility manually, students should submit the Summer 2024 Financial Aid Form so eligibility can be determined. Please note, some students may be required to enroll at least half-time (at least six undergraduate credits) during the summer term who were full-time during the preceding fall and spring semesters for year-round Pell eligibility.

Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans

Federal regulations limit the amount of subsidized and unsubsidized Federal Direct Loans a student may receive in an academic year (fall-spring-summer). Borrowing in fall and spring can therefore impact your ability to receive loans in summer. Visit the to learn more about annual loan limits.

For example:

  • An undergraduate student is a senior and received a $5,500 federal subsidized loan and a $7,000 federal unsubsidized loan for the school year. $2,750 of the subsidized loan and $3,500 of the unsubsidized loan were disbursed to the student in the fall semester, and $2,750 of the subsidized loan and $3,500 of the unsubsidized loan were disbursed to the student in the spring semester.
  • In this example, the annual loan limits are $5,500 in a subsidized loan and $7,000 in an unsubsidized loan. Because the student used their full annual limits for the fall and spring semesters, there is no remaining federal loan eligibility for the summer term.

If a student has not used all of their Federal Direct Loan eligibility during the fall and spring semesters in the same academic year, they must be enrolled at least half-time (at least 6 credit hours for undergraduate students, at least 5 credit hours for graduate or professional students, and 4 credit hours for law students) in the summer term to be eligible for federal loans.
