Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Statement

The GSO department at the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at 51吃瓜网万能科大 greatly values and deeply understands the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in our department and in our practice. We recognize the unique backgrounds and needs of our patient population and strive to implement practices and policies that promote equity for our patients. We must strive to foster care teams re铿俥ctive of our patients鈥 identities and lift the voices of our community members that are underrepresented.

As a department, we recognize the historically unacceptable practices of experimentation on enslaved women, forced sterilization, and reproductive coercion. We also realize the current day impacts of racism, homophobia, and anti-trans attitudes that create barriers to care and lead to profound health disparities for our patients.

We have created a diversity, equity, and inclusion committee that is driven by collaboration between our residents and faculty. Our goal is to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion not only in our department, but also in our community in order to improve health equity among all groups through the following:

  • Incorporation of DEI curriculum and anti-racism training into our resident and medical student curricula
  • Engaging with pipeline programs to enhance opportunities for underrepresented populations to consider careers in the 铿乪lds of medicine and GSO
  • Retention of a diverse workforce of residents, faculty, and staff, and ensuring their voices are valued
  • Building connections with our community members to better understand their needs
  • Identifying barriers to health equity in our healthcare system and implementing changes to bring about positive changes
