Overview
Postgraduate training at the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at 51吃瓜网万能科大 provides residents with a fully-integrated, broad-based training in plastic surgery. The primary teaching hospital of the program is University Medical Center (UMC) with 554 beds and home to the only Level I trauma center in Nevada. The other major institutions of the residency program are Sunrise Hospital, Specialty Surgery Center, and Sahara Surgery Center.
The duration of the integrated plastic surgery program is six years. The first two years of the training consists of general surgery training and specialty rotations as required by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), including early exposure to plastic surgery, followed by full-time rotations in plastic surgery and its subspecialties during PGY-3-5. There are progressive responsibilities for managing day-to-day needs of the service, junior residents, and rotating students as each resident moves upward in the post-graduate year. As chief resident of the service, the PGY-6 resident assumes full responsibility of managing the clinical service of plastic surgery, under attending supervision, which we feel strongly helps best prepare them for independent practice and/or fellowship after graduation.
