On March 21, after months of preparation and interviews leading up to this moment, members of the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÍòÄÜ¿Æ´ó Class of 2025 finally learned where they will be going for the next step in their careers.
Joined by their families, friends, and significant others, the class was welcomed into a place of magic and wonder as the medical education building was transformed into the wizarding world of Harry Potter. When the clock struck 9 a.m., the members of the class rushed to find their match results.
All members of the class of 2025 secured residency spots, and 41 percent of them are staying in Nevada for residency. Additionally, 43 percent of the students matched in primary care specialties, with the top specialties being internal medicine (16.7 percent), psychiatry (11.7 percent), and family medicine (10 percent).
Along with learning where the school’s students will be going, we also learned more about the new resident physicians who will be joining our graduate medical education (GME) programs. Among the school's 88 incoming residents, 33 percent graduated from medical schools in Nevada.
While one class celebrated the near-end of their medical school journey, another celebrated a new phase in their journey.
On March 28, the school hosted the class of 2027’s White Coat Ceremony – a celebration of the class of 2027’s transition into clerkships. At the ceremony, the students were adorned with their white coats. These white coats serve as a symbol of not only their transition from learning in the classroom to learning in the clinic and hospital bedside, but it is also a symbol of their commitment to patient care.
For the students, this ceremony is another step closer to what they have always dreamed of doing – taking care of patients.
The next big event coming up for the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine is the class of 2025's commencement and academic hooding ceremony on May 9, where the soon-to-be graduates get their medical degrees conferred and earn their hard-earned MD title.
