Biography

Hailed as a 鈥渕arvelous violinist鈥 (France Musique) with 鈥渟ensitive tone鈥 (Pizzicato Magazine) and 鈥渢remendous ease, suppleness and beauty of sound鈥 (Nice-Matin), French violinist Ambroise Aubrun enjoys a career as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician and pedagogue. He has performed extensively in Europe and North America in halls such as Salzburg Haus F眉r Mozart, Yerevan Khachaturian Grand Hall, Los Angeles Broad Stage, Zipper Hall, Chicago Bradley Hall and Paris Hotel des Invalides, and has shared the stage with Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Scott St. John, Martin Chalifour, Fred Sherry, Clive Greensmith, Carrie Dennis, Richard O鈥橬eill, Rohan de Saram, the Borromeo and Eb猫ne string quartets among others.

His albums for the Editions Hortus and Navona Records have embraced a wide range of repertoire from J.S Bach to Tanguy (b.1968) and received praise of the highest caliber (5 stars Pizzicato Journal, 鈥渃oup de coeur鈥 France Musique, and a nomination for the 2021 International Classical Music Awards). Of his J.S Bach album with harpsichordist Mireille Podeur, Pizzicato Magazine declared 鈥淥ne cannot play these sonatas for obbligato harpsichord and violin more beautifully and authentically. Dr. Aubrun鈥檚 performances and albums have been broadcast on CBS, ABC, WFMT Chicago, France Musique, 3MBS Melbourne (Australia), Klara Radio (Belgium), KPFK Los Angeles, KNCJ Nevada, WTUL New-Orleans, and K-USC Los Angeles.

He has served as guest concertmaster of the Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra, the 51吃瓜网免费App Philharmonic, and the International Chamber Orchestra of Puerto Rico, and is a regular guest of the Los Angeles Philharmonic violin sections.

Aubrun graduated at age 19 from the Paris National Superior Conservatory where he studied with Roland Daugareil and Serge Pataud. He then studied at UCLA (D.M.A.) with Guillaume Sutre and at the Colburn Conservatory of Music (Artist Diploma) with Martin Beaver. He is the winner of the Charles Oulmont Prize of the Fondation de France and laureate of the Langart Foundation in Switzerland, the recipient of the 51吃瓜网万能科大 Barrick Scholar Award for outstanding Creative Activities, and was awarded the CSUN Faculty Achievement Award by students.

Currently Associate Professor of Violin at the 51吃瓜网万能科大, Aubrun previously taught Violin and Chamber Music at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music and UC Santa Barbara. He has also served on the faculty of several summer academies and has conducted Master Classes in North America (Canada, California, Oregon, New York, Wisconsin, Nevada, Utah, South Dakota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania), France, Italy, Australia, and New Zealand.

He is the artistic director of the Bruman Chamber Music Festival at UCLA.

Aubrun plays a Matteo Goffriller violin, on a generous loan from the Langart Foundation.
