Biography

Imelda Reyes joined 51吃瓜网万能科大 School of Nursing in September 2022 as the MSN Program Director.  She is the Associate Dean of Advanced Education and is dual-certified as a Family and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. Prior to her role, Dr. Reyes led the Primary Care PNP Program and DNP Program at Emory University. She has held clinical roles at Children鈥檚 Healthcare of Atlanta, Emory Healthcare, and US Navy Healthcare. Dr. Reyes is a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP). She also served as a Medical Service Corps officer in the US Navy from 2001-2006, where her last position was as the Chief Financial Officer at Naval Hospital Cherry Point, North Carolina.

Expertise

Dr. Reyes dedicates her clinical career as a highly sought expert on expanding access to quality education and enhancing pediatric care in the Latino community. Her primary areas of impact have been education and service. She is a national leader in pediatric care, having served on multiple national boards, and developed curriculum used across the country to teach nursing students about the social determinants of health and culturally-sensitive primary care pediatrics.

Research/Scholarship

Imelda's clinical research focus is in the area of identifying and managing overweight and obesity in children and the parental perception of weight and health of children. Her expertise lies in pediatrics and adolescent healthcare. Her funding has included teaching innovation, language applications and rural health projects.

Education Background

Dr. Reyes earned her bachelor of science in nursing from Western Michigan University, MPH from the University of Michigan, master of science in nursing from Emory University, and doctor of nursing practice from Vanderbilt University.
