Aetna Student Health
51³Ô¹ÏÍøÍòÄÜ¿Æ´ó is again partnering with Aetna Student Health to provide insurance coverage for our students who are in "Mandatory Insurance" Programs:
, locate in-network plan providers and print your ID card. You can also sign in and see your e.o.b.s, as well as update address changes and email directly with Aetna. Aetna is partnered with healthcare providers across the U.S. where you can find in-network providers not only in 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÃâ·ÑApp, but throughout the country on our 80/20 PPO Network.
Undergraduate Students
Undergraduate students who wish to purchase insurance may contact for a list of insurance brokers who can assist in finding coverage. 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÍòÄÜ¿Æ´ó can only insure groups requiring insurance as a condition of enrollment (Mandatory groups). The undergraduate Council has chosen not to require this from the Undergraduate Group, as a condition of enrollment.
Academic HealthPlans (AHP)
51³Ô¹ÏÍøÍòÄÜ¿Æ´ó is continuing our partnership with our enrollment company, Academic HealthPlan (AHP) again this year:
Here you can find plan information and use the waiver form during the waiver periods to waive out of 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÍòÄÜ¿Æ´ó’s insurance plan with comparable coverage. You can enroll here if you are part-time and not automatically charged for the insurance in your My51³Ô¹ÏÍøÍòÄÜ¿Æ´ó account. You can also add dependents to your plan during the enrollment period, and enroll if you have a Qualifying Life Event.
Enrollment in the plan is based on the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) fee being added to your My51³Ô¹ÏÍøÍòÄÜ¿Æ´ó account. All full-time Graduate and Nursing students are automatically enrolled as "Mandatory" students. Part-time students may enroll manually in the plan by visiting the AHP website as a "Voluntary" admit. If a student falls below full time during the enrollment period the SHIP will drop from the account. This is particularly important to know in case you have full-time credits in fall, and are enrolled in the SHIP, and then drop to part-time credits in the Spring, your insurance will drop and you will need to enroll manually on the AHP site as well.
AHP has many links to assist you . A few common links are:
You can find a copy of the plan brochure, which outlines the benefits and coverage of the plan in the .
The Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP), can be used at the 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÍòÄÜ¿Æ´ó Student Health Center (SHC) with the SHIP paying 100% of services not already covered by your health fee. SHC’s pharmacy is a fast-easy way to fill your prescriptions right here in the SHC with a small copay:
Graduates and Professionals, International and Nursing students have a $20.00 copay for any prescription.
The School of Dental Medicine and the School of Medicine have a 2-tiered schedule, $15.00 for generic medications and $45.00 for name brand medications.
You can use SHIP anywhere In the US with 80% paid by the insurance, and 50% reimbursement for an emergency overseas.
Please refer to the page Student Health Insurance FAQs for current semester insurance rates.
Insurance Waivers
Full time students will be automatically charged the semester or annul insurance rates unless a health insurance fee waiver is requested and proof of alternate insurance coverage is provided. International, graduate and nursing students must submit the by waiver deadlines stated below. Students must be enrolled in their alternate insurance by the semester deadline (8/16/23 for Fall, and/or 1/11/24 for Spring/Summer) to qualify for a waiver. School of Dental Medicine and School of Medicine have their own waiver dates depending on their program start dates.
Once approved, a health insurance waiver is good for one academic year for all students except International students. International students must use the waiver process every semester.
Students who received a fee waiver for the spring semester will need to submit a new fee waiver request for the new academic year.
The 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÍòÄÜ¿Æ´ó Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) is an 80/20 PPO, gold plan and is 100% compliant with the Affordable Care Act (ACA, or Obamacare.) All insurance plans must also be compliant with the ACA in order to be eligible for a waiver. Most insurance plans offered by a business will pass the waiver as employers are held to the same standard of being ACA compliant. The exception here is if an International student is receiving a work-related domestic insurance plan it will not include the Medical Evacuation and Repatriation benefits required by the F-1 visa. Travel plans from countries out of the U.S. are not acceptable plans for the waiver process as well. They do not comply with the ACA. Also, International students using the waiver to try to remove the SHIP from their accounts must have Global Emergency benefits, which include Medical Evacuation and Repatriation, per their visa requirements.
