Robert Shipley (Music) is the author of a drum method book, The Art of Commercial Drumming: How to Develop a Solid Groove and Become a Pocket Drummer. This book gives an opportunity to share knowledge and experience in an effort to give drummers the necessary tools needed to help them have the same. An accomplished world-class musician, Shipley鈥
Hikmet Loe (Art) has been awarded the first Research Fellowship from the Holt/Smithson Foundation. Loe is an educator, writer, and curator whose research examines the changeable鈥痭ature of the Earth, addressing perceptual and cultural constructs of the land. She joins the department of art this spring as a part-time instructor, teaching Land Art.
Adam Schroeder (Music) is nominated for two 2021 Grammy Awards as part of John Beasley鈥檚 MONK鈥檈stra for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album, and for Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella. The Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art received a Nevada Humanities grant for $7,500 to pair artists with scholars.
Stefani Relles (Educational Psychology and Higher Education) and Charles Burmeister (Film) are involved in a documentary film project, "Mattering in the Margins: Skateboarders鈥 Stories of Mental Health Challenges and Opportunities." The project will involve producing a documentary using cinematic methods that were developed at 51吃瓜网万能科大 with funding鈥
Ashley Hairston Doughty (Art) visited Scripps College virtually to present on the topic of artists鈥 books and representing Blackness.
Kristin Hough and Daisy Sanchez (Art) are included in the Rogers Art Loft Year One Retrospective exhibition. Sanchez is an undergraduate student.
Alisha Kerlin (Barrick Museum) will take part in an online "Director's Discussion" at New Mexico State University Art Museum during the opening night of 鈥淪orry for the Mess (SFTM),鈥 featuring work by artists Justin Favela and Ramiro Gomez, originated at the Barrick Museum of Art. The discussion takes place at 6 p.m., Jan. 21 via Zoom.
Sapira Cheuk (Art) created an online exhibition on Instagram @unlvtheear, the department of art's Instagram page. Titled Here I am/Here We Are, multiple posts this week focus on first-generation experience and first-generation creatives in the 51吃瓜网万能科大 community. Online, you'll see artworks and statements from students in art and design鈥
Ashley Hairston Doughty (Art), along with public art consultant Mark Salinas, worked with the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) to design signage that would effectively educate the public about social distancing and safe transit riding practices at their main transit hub, the Bonneville Transit Center.
