NSHE Property Claims

Damage or theft to 51吃瓜网万能科大/NSHE owned property should be reported to Risk Management and Safety as soon as possible and within ninety (90) days from the date of loss. Property Claims for NSHE owned property are administered by the Risk Management & Safety Insurance and Claims Unit.  

There is a $2,000 deductible per claim occurrence. RMS will assist with any potential third-party recovery

To report a claim for stolen or damaged property:

  • Contact UPD and obtain a Police report for stolen property or damage caused by a third party
  • Take photos of all damaged items, including building structures
  • Complete the

Documents to submit to Risk Management and Safety:

  • Police report and/or third party information
  • Photos of damaged item(s)
  • Invoices and receipts from the original purchase of damaged item(s)
    • Proof of purchase of replacement item(s)
    • Quotes, estimates, etc.
    • Invoices
    • Purchase Order (e.g. Workday PO number)
    • Purchase Receipt (e.g. Workday receipt or P-card receipt)

NSHE Owned Auto Property Damage

  1. Accidents must be reported to the police and your supervisor immediately and to Risk Management & Safety (RMS) within 48 hours of the accident.
  2. Follow the Post-Accident Drug and Alcohol Testing Procedures.
  3. A claim for vehicle damage or loss must be reported to RMS as soon as possible but no later than sixty (60) days from the date of damage. Fill out a .
  4. Claims will be adjusted by the State of Nevada Risk Management office. There is a $1,000 deductible for vehicle claims (collision and comprehensive) and a $5,000 deductible for golf carts. RMS will collect the documentation from Facilities Vehicle Repair Services or the Department and file a claim with the state.
  5. Provide RMS with your department workday PG number to receive your reimbursement. Processing time averages about 30 days after all paperwork is received.
  6. Windshield replacement claims have a $1,000deductible for replacement and require three (3) estimates.
  7. Windshield *repairs* (rock chips or other damage that does not require replacement) can be repaired for $30-$50 and are reimbursable with no deductible applied and multiple estimates are not required.
  8. The following documents are needed to file a claim with the State of Nevada:
    • Three (3) vehicle repair estimates 鈥 Contact Facilities Vehicle Repair Services at 702-895-3186 to coordinate obtaining estimates
    • A copy of the Police Report
    • Pictures of the damage
    • Final repair invoice
    • Proof of payment (Workday or P-card transaction)
  9. Physical Damage Coverage for rental vehicles is only applicable when rented from companies with agreements negotiated by the Purchasing and Fleet Services Divisions ( e.g. Enterprise or Hertz). Departments renting outside of those agreements will be responsible for their own insurance coverage and for any accident claims.

     

    It is not necessary for the department to purchase additional insurance when renting under those agreements, as insurance coverage is already included in the negotiated contract rate.

    Accidents should be reported to the rental company immediately. The employee must cooperate with any investigation involving the accident.

    Notify RMS as soon as possible for documentation purposes and if assistance is needed.

Filing a Third Party Liability Claim

The Nevada Attorney General's Office administers all third party claims against NSHE including:

  • Third party property damage or loss claims
  • Third party injury claims
  • Third party auto property damage claims

Complete the

Include copies of

  • The police report
  • Photos of the damage
  • Receipts
  • Proof of purchase
  • Repair costs
  • Medical Bills
  • Any relevant documents to support your claim

Submit the completed claim form and attachments to agclaims@ag.nv.gov You can also mail or fax a copy to the number and address provided on the form.

Incident Reports

Incident reports are used to document incidents on campus resulting in any harm caused to individuals or damage to property. Incident reports can also be used as an evaluation tool by Risk Management and Safety to identify recurring hazards, and review the effectiveness of existing safety protocols or  preventative measures.

If you are an employee of NSHE or 51吃瓜网万能科大, do not use this to report work related injuries. Complete a workers鈥 compensation packet on the .

Depending on the incident, further steps may include: 

  • Contact University Police (UPD) if medical treatment is needed (911 from campus phone line, 702-895-3669 from a mobile phone or by using the Rebel Safe App.
  • Provide comfort for the injured party.
  • Secure the area where the incident occurred any evidence if obtained. 
  • Obtain witness information (name, phone number, address, email address)
  • Obtain photos of the affected/surrounding area.
  • Do not imply that 51吃瓜网万能科大/NSHE will cover any damages or costs for medical treatment, etc.
  • Complete the Incident Report on the

NSHE Employee Personal Property, Theft, Damage, or Loss

The Nevada State Administrative Manual or SAM specifically addresses the possession of personal property on state property. According to the Nevada State Administrative Manual (SAM) 504.1.d:
State employees鈥 personal property kept or maintained on State property will be 鈥渁t their own risk鈥 and not covered under the state property insurance.

You may be able to file a claim with your homeowners or renter鈥檚 policy. However, not all standard homeowners or renter鈥檚 insurance policies provide coverage for personal belongings that are kept at an individual's workplace. Therefore, it's recommended that employees verify the level of their insurance coverage by contacting their insurance provider.
