Special Events

We partner with various 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÍòÄÜ¿Æ´ó units to foster the growth of our faculty members and further the goals of our university. This includes partnering for special events, such as:

  • New Faculty Orientation: New Faculty Orientation is an annual event held every August that welcomes and onboards full-time faculty to 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÍòÄÜ¿Æ´ó.
  • The Part-Time Instructors' Reception and Resource Fair: The reception and virtual resource fair are annual events that welcome part-time instructors to campus in the fall, around the same time as the New Faculty Orientation. Instructors can get resources from some of our campus partners across 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÍòÄÜ¿Æ´ó at the virtual resource fair and meet peers at the reception.
  • MSI Week: Minority-Serving Institution (MSI) Week is a dedicated week of student activities, events, and educational programs aimed at promoting innovative approaches to equity and inclusion in the classroom, fostering a passion for learning, and creating a sense of belonging.
  • Student Success Summit: The Student Success Summit kicks off MSI Week with engaging speakers, student and faculty panels, breakout sessions, performances, and tabletop discussions. The summit highlights teaching techniques, support service models, and faculty and student research to enhance student success.
  • : The Best Teaching Practices Expo was a yearly event focused on promoting teaching development, research, and career planning. Although the event is currently on a hiatus, you may read from faculty who shared their research-based ideas for improving teaching across 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÍòÄÜ¿Æ´ó. Each poster describes a teaching practice that addresses a particular need to improve teaching; benefits 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÍòÄÜ¿Æ´ó students in particular; and applies in a variety of teaching contexts.
